Varieties

Asters are available in a wide range of colours.  For intense colour, choose Aster novae-angliae ‘Andenken an Alma Potschke’, which produces bright magenta flowers. It’s a bushy plant, growing up to 90cm tall. May need staking. Aster x frikartii ‘Mönch’ is indispensable for its long-flowering season. The plant blooms from August until the first frost stops it. Other good forms include Aster ageratoides ‘Star Shine’, Aster ageratoides ‘Asran’. All varieties do best if planted in full sun.
